Background
The Thermit group was founded by Mr. A.D. Monteiro in the year 1969 as a small firm "ABM Metals & Alloys" as a tribute to his father in the small town of Shimoga. Shimoga is located in the state of Karnataka, in Southern India, and is very well linked to the nearby harbor, railway and an airport. Also, most of the major raw material required for ferroalloy production was easily sourced from nearby mining areas.
This was the home for several late night experiments and various simulated castings. In a short period of time, those late hours, and sleepless nights, paid off, and the Thermit Alloys Corporation was born. TAC, as it was referred to, began the manufacture of low carbon ferroalloys with the motto "Let's work together". It rapidly expanded and soon started supplying its products to some of the leading iron and steel producers and welding electrode manufacturers of India and earned a strong reputation for its unparalleled quality.
Our Business
Today, we have a large ferroalloy facility, a mining division and our latest venture, a Submerged Arc Welding (or SAW) flux manufacturing unit.
Our mining division now intends taking a giant leap by way of forward integration - the manufacture of alloy steels using its vast reserves of iron and manganese ore, dolomite and other vital input raw material. Essential alloying elements will be sourced from its already existing ferroalloy plant.
